Five original ways of letting everybody know you’re pregnant

The joy on finally achieving that dream of becoming pregnant is more than enough reason to ensure that when we let our nearest and dearest know, the way we actually inform them should be in a manner that is truly fitting of such wonderful news. That first positive result, the ensuing joy that overwhelms us, really deserves to be shared with those closest to us so that they feel part of this wonderful event.

For this reason, from UR International, your assisted reproduction clinic in Spain, we would like to help you not only in becoming pregnant, but also with some original tips which can help when you let family and friends know the news, in addition to all those people who we know will be as happy as we are and with whose support, understanding and companionship they too fully deserve to live this fantastic journey from the start, so that they feel an essential part of it all.

The other way round surprise party

We invite friends and family to our house. We do this without raising suspicion and in a general manner, so that everybody thinks it’s just a normal get together, with no apparent reason or motive other than seeing one another and catching up. However this is not the case: we will host a surprise party in which the pregnancy will be announced and hence the first step towards forming a family.

To this end we could decorate the house with baby and toddler designs and motifs, put up posters, balloons and similar items which leave no doubt that there is much to celebrate. And, when our friends and family arrive, their surprise on the house’s decoration will be a way of giving them the good news.

A new sister or brother

This way of letting everybody know is adequate for those families who already have a child. We can take advantage of their innocence, and so capture that extra attention adults pay to any little one at home, so that the great news is actually given by the child.

In a family meeting or meal and after having practised previously in private, we would capture everyone’s attention so that, for a few seconds of silence, the news of the new arrival can be announced in the child’s sweet angelic voice, which would evidently show his or her joy on the forthcoming arrival of a new sister or brother. This could be a really adorable not to say original way of announcing the news.

In a 21st century style

Maybe there are people who are not trusting of announcing a pregnancy, or any other important item of news, in any other way which isn’t face to face. However, nowadays with technology ever present and ever changing in our lives and our adaptation to this in our day to day has meant that social media, mobiles or video calls are no longer seen as a cold way of communicating news, but interestingly a quite unique tool to communicate and bring people together.

For this reason, many people – especially those who work, study or live far from home – choose this form of communication to inform of their achievements and news. If we are unable to wait to organise an event to announce the news, or if our personal situation and distance prevent us from doing so in person, technology is there to lend a hand. A publication in our profile, a video call ( even a group one! ) or a first line in a blog which evolves into a diary of a pregnancy during the nine months are possible ways to give that important piece of news in an original way.

Shall we play?

Although it’s really tempting and ( a bit naughty in a funny way ) to blurt out the good news about the pregnancy and watch the expression on everybody’s face and their reaction, we could actually do it in like a game of cluedo. A way of guessing in stages, we could make the most of a typical family Sunday or a dinner with friends to bit by bit give out little pieces of news, which when added together give that all important item of news that the moment of starting a family has finally arrived.

Playing with that not knowing, and taking advantage of the fact that we know something that the rest don’t know, we can make the most of any small detail, which in itself would not be particularly eloquent, so that it serves as a piece of a puzzle that our friends and relatives can piece together. And then, when it all starts to make sense, the element of surprise and amazement would be far greater than as if we had simply announced the news without warning.

Playing at distraction

“Loading” has as of late become a popular expression related to pregnancy. This concept, can let us know in a relaxed and fun way the internal process which occurs inside the womb of the woman who is expecting. For this reason, we can make the most of the idea to play at distraction, in order to announce the pregnancy.

From a T-shirt with the word “loading” written on it and a small item to accompany it which informs everyone of the pregnancy ( from a sonogram to a positive pregnancy test in print), or even with the word written on her belly and a top which clearly shows the letters, or maybe even a meal, a dinner or any type of meeting with family and friends so that without uttering a single word we can see who’s the first in realising and as such the first in informing the rest of the group.
